Appointed February 1983
Bernice Vercoe was the founding president of the guild in 1979 and has been very supportive of the guild since. In 1983 the Sydney executive voted to appoint Bernice as patron “in recognition of her presidency and constant endeavours for and on behalf of the guild”.
Bernice was an extensive show exhibitor and prize winner from 1962 for many years. Bernice co-authored two cake decorating books with Dorothy Evans (Cake Design & Decoration, 1966 followed by Cake Decorating, 1973). These books are considered to be classic cake decorating books.
Bernice later published another book (Creative Sugar Art Design, 1990) which was also considered to be an important contribution to cake decorating.
State life member
In 1991 Bernice was bestowed with life membership by the state executive of the Cake Decorators’ Guild in recognition of her contributions to cake decorating, the guild, judging and judge training.
