Patricia (Pat) Simmons was a founding member of the guild in 1989 and continued her passion for cake decorating not only within Sydney branch, but other branches of the guild throughout the state, Australia and many countries overseas.
Together, Pat and Marie (Sykes) demonstrated fondant cake covering at ICES (International Cake Exploration Societie) in America in 1989.
Not only did Pat share her talents with the guild she also taught cake decorating through the Department of Education and had private students, many of whom gained awards at various shows.
Pat held committee positions from 1983 to 1985 as branch secretary, 1986 to 1987 and again in 1995 as general committee, and between 1991 and 1994 as a co‐opted committee member.
Patricia Simmons unfortunately succumbed to a long‐term illness in June 2012. This is not without having left a significant legacy through her varied cake decorating activities within and for the guild, a series of books co‐written with long time friend Marie Sykes, and her teachings. Her gentle nature and warm smile will be sorely missed.
