We hope these answer any questions you may have. Please contact us if you have further enquiries.
General
Anyone is welcome to attend a meeting without joining to see how we function. The regular door fee applies. After this you will be required to apply for membership. For more information on becoming a member see membership.
Of course! Membership entitles you to attend any other branch meeting and/or function held throughout the state. Bookings are not required (unless advised otherwise), just pay the door fee upon arrival and bring a plate of food to share. For a program guide see meetings.
At Sydney Branch we are inclusive in all our activities. Our members are friendly and welcoming. Simply identify yourself as a visitor or new member and we will make sure you are looked after. See meetings for program information and what to expect.
There is no geographical drawing area for membership. However to get the most of your membership, members generally choose a branch closest to where they live. To find a branch close to you, visit our state’s website at www.cakedecoratorsguildnsw.org.au/branches.
There is no minimum skill requirement apart from being able to cover and decorate a cake.
We welcome all skill levels from novice to professional. At each meeting we provide various demonstrations aimed to enhance learning and inspire, no matter what level of experience.
Our branch meetings generally consist of four demonstrations, lunch and a little housekeeping to keep everyone up-to-date with the guild’s activities. Time is also given for any Q&As. For a program guide see meetings.
At each meeting we have the privilege of professional, experienced cake decorators and sugar artists sharing their craft with us. Demonstrations vary and range from sugar flowers, figurines, cake decorating techniques and tools to name a few. Upcoming demonstrations will be published in our branch newsletter Sydney News which is sent to members prior to each meeting.
At Sydney Branch we encourage fellowship and enjoyment through all our activities. We expect our members to pay the door fee, bring a plate of food to share and most of all have a good time. Please be considerate of others by turning your mobile phone to silent and taking calls outside if needed. For each demonstration we request members rotate seating to allow others a turn to sit up the front.
We are always open to ideas. If you have any feedback or suggestions for a future demonstration and/or workshop, please contact us.
Yes! At Sydney Branch we rely on co-operation to run the branch as well as we do. We welcome new ideas and appreciate anyone that can assist in the smooth running of our branch. If you are able to volunteer please see one of our friendly committee members or contact us.
The Cake Decorators’ Guild of N.S.W. Inc. was founded in 1979. For more information on our guild see history.
Juniors
A child is welcome to attend a meeting without joining to see if they like it. The regular day fee applies. After the initial visit, membership is required. For more information see juniors.
No skill is required in our juniors group. Any child between 5 to 18 years of age who wishes to learn or try cake decorating is welcome to join.
A day fee is charged which includes their activities for the afternoon. For more information see juniors.
Meetings begin at 1.30pm and go until about 4pm with an afternoon refreshment break at 3pm. For a program guide see juniors.
Afternoon tea is provided at the end of each day. If there are any children celebrating a birthday we will also provide a communal birthday cake to toast the occasion.
Our structured hands-on activities are generally themed to seasonal events like Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas etc. Activities are tailored to the age of each child e.g. a younger child will produce a more simplistic version of the activity in comparison to an older teen, so no child misses out. Juniors keep all pieces created during the meetings.
We have a newsletter for our juniors which is distributed by email prior to each meeting. If you would like a copy of the newsletter please contact us.
There are opportunities for our juniors to exhibit their work in the juvenile sections of competitions such as the NSW Guild’s Challenge competition, branch display pieces, local, regional and even the Sydney Royal Easter Show. If you are interested in entering your child please contact us.
